First year medical school

Dear All, This is a video about some of the first year medical school classes we are taking. Hope you enjoy it! Jeff for more random stuff, my blog is: www.bostonmedicalstudent.wordpress.com PS I wanted to point out something important: that the opinions expressed in this post are not necessarily those of Harvard Medical School, its affiliated institutions, or Harvard University. Also, I’m just a medical student, so my posts are hopefully conversation starters, but only conversation starters …

It is just sad that grade has still so much importance to get into medical school . We find ourselves with these great genius with no bedside manner or empathy.

@LifeIsScience1 So if you have a really bad grade in high school.. you are never going to be able to study medicine? WTF…and if you cant wat can u do?

if you want it you have what it takes, all you have to do is commit to it. Put effort into you, sometimes put everything/everyone aside because your studies must come first.

I’m a sophomore and I want to be a doctor. Deciding between becoming a Pediatrician or a General Practitioner. I’m going into all honors and AP next year, so I’m excited. 4.0 GPA without honors classes. I go to a military academy for high school. I’m also going to be volunteering at a hospital and I’m going to become a reading mentor at this elementary school. I have a job, too. I really hope I can get into a good school. I’m looking at UF or UCF. I’d kill to get into Harvard or any Ivy League.

dude are you in harvard med?

  13. 5959512 says:

you must have to be superhuman to organize/complete all of those courses. I’ve been taking 2-3 classes a semester getting 100% in each; for ex. micro, a&p. Do I even stand a chance in med school? how do you find out if you have what it takes?

Compared to medical school and all of the prerequisites that are usually required for being accepted into a prestige institute, the GE courses I’m currently in also feel like a joke. I’m a sophmore, by the way, so I’m still taking general ed. classes. Boo-ringg!

  16. v12345c says:

bachelor’s degree is the degree you get after you finish 4 years of university.

  20. v12345c says:

BikutaHo, med schools consider your college/university GPA, not your high school GPA. You need a bachelor’s degree before you can attend medical school in USA.

  21. BikutaHo says:

    i wanna be a doctor

my last year gpa was 3.6 ( in 9th grade)

now im going for 4.0, but idk if its enough to get in med school

IDK if I should become a lawyer or doctor. I am good at English, my favorite subject is history. I am not that good at it but I am interested in chemistry and a little less in biology. I have a 3.2 in high school and have only 1 D, rest are C’s and above, I am in athletics and currently fixing that D. I think my GPA will rise since I have honors courses and the extra points have not been added yet, since I transferred to a school that would raise my GPA with honors courses. Any suggestions?

  23. LifeIsScience1 says:

Yeah college classes goes wayyyyyy deeper than HS classes!!! College makes HS look like a joke! lol

  24. sa612136 says:

If you’re 4 years from graduating high school, you won’t be getting into medical school for another 8 years. I would just make sure that you’re doing well in any classes that you are taking so you can get into a premedical program in a college. If any specifics, take anatomy/physiology if your school offers it! I found that while other chem/bio classes may help, generally they won’t give you too much of an advantage because college intro classes will go much further. Good luck
